My beautiful colleague and dear friend Zulema George is opening her own store, Anavaa Kisasa, this Saturday, September 13th. This is a special day because not only is it her grand opening, but it is her birthday as well. This grand opening will be a fabulous way to celebrate her life and special talent as a designer. Zulema’s creations are a personal reflection of her unique style and eye for colors, lines, and versatility that every woman desires.

Her store will include her own handbags, and thanks to other designers’ additions, after you choose the perfect handbag for yourself, you can pick an amazing dress and piece of jewelry to accompany it. (And guys, this store is for you too – she offers men’s clothing as well!)

Anavaa Kisasa is already present in many stores around the country, including EDGE*nyNOHO in NYC, Sammy’s Place Boutique in Atlanta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida, The Time Boutique in St. Louis, Missouri, and Red Lipstick Boutique in Brooklyn, NY.

Zulema George was born in Kingstown, St. Vincent. Anavaa Kisasa, which means “she dresses in fashion” in Swahili, is a fashion accessory line specializing in women’s handbags. The company was founded in 2004 when this Brooklyn native became tired of purchasing handbags that she knew she could create herself. “Adding my sense of style to an array of the finest leathers, I started creating funky, versatile bags that any woman would love. My handbags are custom made and personally handcrafted. I use leathers in a variety of colors adding a touch of personality to each handbag with a special detail.”

I can not begin to tell you the number of compliments for and inquires about her handbags that I’ve received as I walk the streets of New York City. Her amazing knack for choosing just the right materials and colors for her designs is an obvious attraction, but when you meet her in person, you will also be completely won over by her smile and brilliant personality.
